Alex Reilly has been recruited to join the Shawnee Heights High School Visual Arts Pathway Advisory Committee. Faculty at SHHS have reached out to leading industry professionals to join this committee.
The goal of the Visual Arts Pathway is to prepare students for post-secondary education and even for entry-level positions in the workforce. Committee members share their professional expertise and perspective on what is needed to improve curriculum and facilities.
"We already had our first meeting, and we learned about the programs that the school currently has in place and began to brainstorm with them on ways to further enrich the educational experience that they offer," says Alex. "Bringing the real world into the classroom is part of it, and I’m looking forward to what lies ahead."
Dialogue is a great way to begin, and SHHS is demonstrating that proactively reaching out is a win-win for all involved. The teachers are able to tap resources outside of the school, the students get exposure to real-world situations, and the committee has an opportunity to make a positive impact and builds our community economic development efforts.
