For those of us who work in offices outside of our homes, winter can bring copious amounts of snow and ice that keep us from going in. Next time you find yourself housebound and unable to conduct the business as usual, here are some ways to use the time to your advantage.

  1. Watch a TED talk on your industry.
  2. Take a webinar.
  3. Learn how to use a new phone app.
  4. Set up an account on a social media platform you’re not familiar with and explore.
  5. Read that business book that's still sitting on your desk or nightstand.
  6. Meditate.
  7. Call a former colleague, boss or client and reconnect.
  8. Update your resumé. (Even if you don’t plan to change jobs, an updated resumé can be shared at your next review. And listing out recent accomplishments and wins can provide an ego boost.)
  9. Review your personal goals and celebrate the wins. For the ones lingering on the list, make a plan on how to accomplish them or simply edit or replace them with something new.
  10. Go outside and build a snowman. (Youth is an action not an age. So go ahead, and act like a child.)
